For the reasons already given, a higher mounted position would be much better:
Better beam 'throw'
Less shadows
Not as vulnerable to damage

Hi. It might be of interest (it might not  ) but the locks are available as spares from Trek (Mobile Storage Systems). I had to replace mine earlier this year as the lock failed
