Thanks all Smile

I had been a bit lazy before and not uploaded any photos until this morning.

The idea really was to build a unique defender which is still up to the job and stays true to the marque whilst including all of the bits we wanted. I realise its not to everyone's taste but its just what we wanted to build.

I think Caledonian is one of my favourite LR colours and like it being a less common colour.

The 3.9 is all original at present except for the exhaust headers. Will probably put a new camshaft and followers into it at some point and play with the ECU maps but for now it will remain standard. For now it has just had new coil, HT leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, rocker cover gaskets, valley gasket and aux belt.

I am not sure but I know it was definitely available on Discovery 1 and 2 models too so I would guess it would be late 90s to early 2000s.

I am not sure I will need to enhance the heater any further, the V8 doesnt struggle to generate heat like my Td5 does. We dont even have windows in the doors yet and it is too hot inside with the engine running Laughing

Work on the interior will hopefully commence this weekend. The dashboard etc cannot go in until the wiring is finished but we might do a dummy fit on Saturday.

The seatbox is already fitted and is a Td5 one along with the transmission tunnel and diaphragm to allow the R380 gearbox with the long stick conversion to fit correctly without having to butcher anything. We have some freshly galvanised sills fitted too now.

We have a pair of Sparco R100 bucket seats to go into it which will be a tight fit but should just be okay, also got a small OMP leather wheel to give a bit more knee room as I am 6'6".

Picked up a VGS heated screen at Peterborough show last month which we have now fitted too so can finish building up the wiper mechanism. Hopefully some more updates this weekend.

6.6 in a truck cab, with bucket seats Shocked Shocked Shocked

Good luck with that Laughing

It's not a smaller steering wheel you need, it's a smaller set of legs.

Bit more progress on Friday evening and Saturday morning this week but couldnt spare too much time.

Got the inner wings installed and the top wings, slam panel and dummy fit of the front panel. Put some new wipac crystal light, mobile centre stainless rings and new mounting bowls in:

Fitted the new header tank to the wing and bled the coolant system. The radiator we have has the bleed point on the top but we seemed to struggle to get the air out of the top hose so we drilled and tapped a 1/8NPT thread into the x-eng fan switch to get the air out.

Radiator fan bracket all cleaned up, bolts tightened and fitted back in:

Also dummy fitted the new LED lightbars which just fit beneath the rollcage bar. Its starting to look like a Land Rover again!

Great build! The exhaust out of the rear cross member is very smart indeed! Cool

I had't noticed that before Laughing Obviously the seats are not yet fitted!

I am sure they can if you have no mechanical sympathy and a thirst for CVs/halfshaft!

Thanks, it seemed like the natural place with no rear fuel tank! I imagine the range will be pretty poor with only the underseat tank though.
