5 pin carling switch wiring diagram
Can anyone confirm the correct 5 pin connections for these on - off switches please?

Wiring in some LED aux lights via a fused power supply.

been on internet and the Mudstuff site (supplier) gives one option but the switches dont have a connector number 1

Which pin is :-

Power in (12.2v tested)
Power out to lights
dash lights
Earth switch
Earth to lights

Cant understand how something so simple is doing my head in

Advice appreciated 2006 TD5

Which exact switch & spec is it?

Earth to the lights will be done direct, not via the switch. The switch only switches the 12V power.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

The switches are carling V-rocker (off-on) with 5 connectors at the back. 2006 TD5

Get the datasheet from the Carling website and you will be able to work it out quite easily by using the part number which should be stamped into the top of the switch.

If it is an on/off switch though, the two terminals which are at the top of the switch body are the illumination (LED so polarity dependant) and the three terminals which are in the centre will be the switch contacts. It will probably be on/on actually so the centre contact of the three will be your supply and on of the other two will be your switched output dependant on whether you want the switch to function in the up or down position.

If the switch has the tell-tale this will probably not work correctly if you sourced the switch from Mud-stuff as it will be a US spec switch with on being the uppermost position. If this is the case you will need to connect differently (personally i think this is a bodge) for the telltale to work correctly.

If you purchased it from mobilecentre it will function correctly without the bodge,

I’m assuming

Live in
Switch live
Illumination
Switch on light
Negative (required to operate illumination)

The reason I ask which exact switch you ordered is that there are many variations, including US and EU type.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Your pinout doesn't seem to be on Mud's PDF list, I would expect Mud to supply a pinout for it.

However your description doesn't seem to be from Mud's site either.

Is it a genuine Carling or a clone? The 5 pin with that layout (no pin 1) seem to be clones Confused  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

All sorted, I had an issue with the lights earth and wired the switches up as per the diagram provided by Andy above.

I have a mix of switches the ones I am currently using are not from MUD (some of the others are) but were purchased as Carlings (described as Carling ARB type switches) hence the confusion.

Problem solved - thanks for the input folks which helped greatly

Cheers

"Type" indicates they are clones hence the lack of useful info on them on Mud's site Wink  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

8 7

2
3 6

And some like this

8. 7
1
2
3

The top ones I have the wiring down as 8 and 7 earth, 2 as live feed 3 to relay 6 light circuit

The problem I have is the second ones.... I can find a pin list that makes sense....

Your help would be much appreciated @steve_overland on Insta.
