Update.

Not fitted the new VCV yet.

Reason - I gave the MAF and MAP sensors a good cleaning with Electrical Contact Cleaner along with an extra shot of Millers in the tank. Running very smooth at the moment.

So, for the time being I will leave things alone.

Vcv is on the back of the fuel pump. Think it has a grey connector to it. You can see it if you look under the inlet manifold. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Held on with 2 cap head bolts, 5mm if I remember correctly. You can change without removing anything else. About a 30 minute job all going well. Remove the connector on the valve when you've undone the bolts, alot easier. Thumbs Up

thank you both, much appreciated, am looking to remove it and see what the piston looks like, dont have the facilities for a relearn so hoping if new one goes in it will sort itself out. Cheers

In my particular case, I replaced the VCV without the "learning". It ran fine afterwards and has done ever since. I never bothered to look at the old one for "scoring" etc.

Happy days, I’m in the middle of replacing the glow plugs and inlet manifold and thought I may as well replace the VCV while I’ve got easy access. Hopefully, I’ll get away with it.

You don’t need any learning process with the VCV. Just swap over.
When I did mine last year, it did indeed have some scoring but was at least ten years old so can’t complain!
The new one was a quick fit and forget and is running lovely now. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

That’s a bit of a knuckle scraper that job, especially as I thought I’d use the new screws from PFJones, which were too long so had to remove and put the old ones back Laughing
Drives very differently straight away, valve looked original (not put 12v across it to see barrel), much more freely revving 👍 2.4TDCI 90 - everyday brilliance

ive just replaced the vcv because of huge amount of diesel smoke and engine knocking , found it was stuck open and was running at 500 bar at idle when i checked live data on the Autel.

It didnt change anything on start up with the engine still loads of smoke but the idle pressure back to normal now, 240 bar at idle, to cut a long story short , i found all four injectors had blown due to the high pressure and had replace all of them.

So if your experiencing rough idle and have high fuel pressure you need to replace the. vcv and check the injectors .

I did a relearn on the vcv after it had idled and warmed to to check the difference.
