"Probably the right pace to do the 500 at is by cycling (literally or at the same speed as if you were) - that way you really get to see the point of the route."

If that's anything like cycling in the Alps, I'd have to disagree. I see absolutely Censored -all as my eyes are closed with the effort of getting up the Cols and my brain suffering sensory over-load with the pain, ensuring no view is registered. Rolling with laughter

I assume with wind, sea, sea-wind, salt, salty-sea-wind, more wind, gales, midges, midges in the wind, salt-encrusted midges in the wind (or a gale), perhaps some rain (although that would wash the salt off the midges), storms, hail, etc etc, it would be the same experience I get cycling in the Alps so the views would be lost. Bar that one, sunny, windless, midge-free day a year, and then trying to get it all done by bike would be a big ask Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Cracking photos Skip. Looks like you had a rare old time.

Pies look delicious. The French don't have a pie culture and certainly not a full case 'n' lid suet pie; I do miss them. Big Cry

BTW, that's a monster set of rims you have. 20" or bigger? Monsieur Le Grenadier

Seems like more of Scotland are jumping on the bandwagon?

Who can blame them?

Good trip. But no signposts so best to download a route from the internet. Can then enjoy the scenery.
