Spring rates

Last week l drove a Defender 110 2.4 XS TDCi and the ride quality was definitely better than my TD5.

For instance the TDCi floated over a rough cobbled track where my 110 TD5 CSW would have been harder work. I already have adjustable shocks (and it is better than standard) but the TDCi was still better.

I can only assume it’s due to different spring rates. So if l fit standard TDCi SW springs to my TD5 is it going to ride like a TDCi?

Has anybody tried it, or is it down to me to try it and report back!

I've done a lot to get "Disco2" quality road manners

Changing the shocks to Koni really helped too - mine has a really comfy ride now, especially with 35psi in the back tyres

Changing to progressive springs like the Puma had helps a lot. Isolating the springs from the frame helps much more to stop a harsh ride.

Use Disco II spring isolators on the top of the front prings and OEM 110 spacers for the rear. If you want really cushy ride install standard isolators to the bottom of the front springs as well. The rears should have the stock isolators already on them (ANR3060)

That’s really useful thanks for the replies. I will do as suggested, Puma springs with isolators.

Yes the Puma was also quieter than my TD5!

Those OME isolators are actually for Toyota Tundra. You can alao find rubber ones which can do the same thing. Glad to help out. I got mine here. (Link saved in £ for you).
