C Tek recommendations
Looking to purchase a Ctek battery charger for general use on both normal lead acid battery and yellow top agm batteries. Is there any benefit in buying the larger MXS 5.0 over the XS 0.8 (other than the time it would take to bring a battery back from flat).

Its main use would be a trickle charger to supplying the yellow top leisure battery via the aux fuse board when we're on a site with EHU for a two week stop and occasionally to charge up other batteries in other vehicles/shed.

Thanks Keith

I have a CTEK 7.0 and keep it plugged on through a live 'cigarette'` lighter point all the time, as I do on all our modern cars.
It guarantees a good battery and CTEK have never let me down in years of using their products
Thoroughly recommend.

I've had a couple of MXS 5.0 chargers for a number of years without problems. The problem with the XS 0.8 is that it is only a trickle charger and therefore not as versatile as the 5.0. If you ever need to charge a battery overnight in an emergency then you'll not achieve it with the 0.8. I know there's a large difference in price but I think if you only have one Ctek in your garage then it should be the 5.0 Defender 90XS SW

Thanks for the replies, it's not so much the price as I only want to buy once, but don't want to buy something oversized and physically larger than necessary for installing.

Looks like the MXS 5 is the way to go so far.

Thanks Keith

Hi there,
I have both chargers. There is little difference in physical size.
I do not think the 0.8 would cope with a flat battery larger than the motorcycle size battery. It is more a trickle charger for larger batteries.
Would recommend you get the 5.0 as it is far more versatile and would meet your needs.

I have the MXS 10 £100 from Halfords when they have them on offer. I have it connected to a towing connector so that I can just plug it straight into the back of the 90 when its in the garage without any fuss Thumbs Up

Cant fault it, although it can be frustrating if you need to charge a particularly flat battery.

I have a couple of MXS 5 chargers which are ideal for Defenders and similar sized batteries, and also an MXS 25 which I use for the humongous battery on my mobile crane. The latter would be massive overkill on a Defender battery but is ideal for a battery the size of a horse-trough.

I have an mxs5, perfect for general use! Also have an older xs7000 which is good for slightly faster charging.

Once my split charge is in I plan to replace my 7 pin socket with a 13pin, then will make a ctek to 13 pin adapter to go with it
