I would, if they could guarantee that I had the same or more power, same range, I could still pull a trailer without flattening the battery and it didn’t cost more than a whole new vehicle.

Living on the outskirts of London where I can see the time coming that we will be fined for farting, added to the fact that the defender now doesn't work for it's keep in the way it used to I am keeping an eye on electric conversion as it will be one way to keep it. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

Saw a post on this vehicle a while back & had a look at the website. Depends what transpires with emissions but can see this as a growth market.

That’s bloody marvellous, when electric cars truly take off, diesel fuel may become difficult or impossible to get hold off, so converting classics such as Defenders, may be the only way of keeping vehicles such as ours on the road.

No doubt it’s prohibitively expensive to convert to electric at the moment , but perhaps aftermarket conversion kits will become more mainstrain when fossil fuels are priced off our roads. Now gone - 2012 2.2 110 DC XS

Costs are comparable to a V8 engine swap.....

Mine will go electric when I have to make the choice between selling it or ditching diesel! I know of a puma based defender that is being converted and I think predicted range was around 200 miles. I see no reason why a couple of years down the line, and some clever engineering, that 3-400 miles wouldn't be possible. There's a lot of space and a lot of weight capacity in a defender for batteries!

Could also do some clever stuff like intelligent torque vectoring front/rear when off road, disabling the front motor when not needed on road etc. The instant torque of an electric drive system would actually suit a defender very well I think.

There was a fully working fleet of electric Defenders developed and tested a few years back called all terrain, seemed to be very good, not sure on the range of them though between charging?

The basic development work has already been done, so hopefully makes it viable in the future, shame they stopped making the Defender as it was so we will never see a production version in its classic form.
