LT230 input shaft wear video, how bad is it?
Trying to work out how urgently my transfer case needs replacing, video of the input shaft below!

It whines pretty badly, which I think is the intermediate shaft issue. There's also a lot of backlash, which is probably coming from all over, and the transfer case is the original, so over 200k miles in!

This gave a reasonable amount of backlash but actually not to the point I was worried. The flywheel was just starting to fail and when we replaced it I noticed the wear and was like eak!

Yup previous owner had a Disco T box fitted so it’s was nicer on the motorway. They did it right got a recon box etc but it was a early one without the cross drilled input Big Cry

It’s clearly been starved of oil and has taken the gearbox output shaft with it which is annoying as it’s a 92k defender so when we split it open everything else was in great condition with the exception of a syncro or two.

Full set of bearing, syncro’s new mainshaft and a new Puma transfer box later and it’s on the road Thumbs Up
