Hi Orchard Thats really interesting. This could be a deal at JE then. I got my Td5 done a long time back through a half price offer in Land Rover International. Hopefully this may be the same sort of deal.

I've had my 2.2 Puma remap to 170hp by Alive very good and take's the low gear jerkiness away a lot better drive ,first gear still a bit short normally I use 2nd to pull away.

I had my 2.2 remapped (Tune+) by JE 3 weeks ago and chose them for the same reason as you, location and convenience.

As far as I can tell the remap hasn’t reduced the jerkiness at low speeds but it has made a noticeable improvement to the performance and can thoroughly recommend it.

hi there. did you get the re-map done and has it made a difference to the 1st gear jerkiness?

I drove a 2.2 earlier I didn't notice any evidence of jerkiness. are you sure it's a problem with the current set-up or just something that needs getting used to?

I drive a 2.4 normally with a tune and it's fair to say the throttle is significantly more responsive than standard and it takes a little time to adjust to.

the 2.2 I drove (with map) I just jumped in a drove away in - smooth / no problem. I don't know whether that's because I'm used to a responsive throttle or otherwise - what I can say its it went like an absolute train. (?)

I had a remap done by Empire. Very very impressed with performance. In my case it turns out the jerkiness was down to rear half shafts and driving style. I fitted new half shafts which cured a lot of the jerkiness. Then when testing the remap out with Empire, Gareth gave me a few pointers on driving style 'to wit' Drive it like a car and not like a Land Rover. So white van man style it is. Very occassionaly I get caught out mainly when in too low a gear as Td5 style. But then I am a coffin dodger and have driven a Td5 for 12 years. These things take a time to sink in.

forgive me if I've interpreted this wrong but are you suggesting you have to drive with you foot down ie quickly to drive smoothly without the jerkiness?

if so I'd suggest there's something not right? what happen if you wanna drive slowly ie in heavy traffic smoothly?

Every 2.2 we have at work is on, off, on, off.
I don’t like driving them to be honest, I find you have to feather the clutch to pull away nicely.
I have mentioned about getting one remapped to see if it makes a difference?

I suppose you get use to them after a while, but much prefer a 2.4 Wink 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

/\ I'd suggest it's either a case of getting used to it or something not right?

As mentioned previously I drove a 2.2 earlier with c 420 Nm and it was v response in the later stages of throttle position but to be honest in the early stages of throttle position it felt very lethargic (probably like standard) compared to my 2.4. hence no problems driving without jerkiness pulling away etc?

We’ve got 3 2.2s and they are all exactly the same,
So I wouldn’t say there is a problem, it’s just the way they are Rolling Eyes
I don’t drive them enough to get used to them, I just kangaroo across the yard when I bring them in to the workshop Laughing 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Caterham, Before my 2.2 Puma I drove a remapped Td5 90 for 12 years. It had lots of low down torque I could stay in 5th gear at 10 - 15 mph no problem. I started off at low revs and tended to change up at low revs and all in all the drive was very sedate. Plenty of power when I put my foot down.
Now the 2.2 is a totally different animal. Starting off with plenty of acceleration and changing up at higher revs and in town having to work the gears a lot more than the Td5. As Ian said you have to have a lot lighter touch on the clutch than the Td5. As I said more like driving a car than the Land Rover I was used to.
I must say though that now am used to the 2.2 it is a lovely motor to drive especially on country road/ motorway driving. As I said the only jerkiness I get now is if I get lazy and dont change down when going round corners.

hmm.

I'll see if I can get another drive in it but I didn't experience any jerkiness at low revs what so ever - and I'm king of low revs Laughing
