I was talking to my friendly JLR dealer yesterday, who had seen it at a dealer presentation.

He told me a few interesting snippets:
- in showrooms (in Holland) in 2019
- models will include 90, 110 and 130, including a 130 SW with 8 or 9 seats.
- definitely takes cues from the design concept

Finish will be less spartan than the outgoing models, but still a workhorse. He mentioned earlier discos as comparison.

Let’s see...

That's the complete opposite to what Ive been told.

Was about to say the same thing. Emporer McGovern has already decreed his hatred for roof racks. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Fully independent suspension, inboard independent electric wheel motors, medium sized (~30kWh) battery pack, small generator that will run on anything.

Basic hose out interior, lots of flat bits so I can easily bolt stuff to it.

Or at least that's what I want Rolling with laughter

Almost!
The Bolinger just has two motors instead of 4 and it's pure electric.

I really like the idea though, it will take 8x4 sheets and you can put long things all the way through the middle. It's also got a mains power take off for running power tools. Genius.

Land Rover Design Director & Head Of All Design Ever, Geraldine McGovern, was unrepentant. ‘Premiumness, emotionalosity, erm… all-terrainasiousness,’ he said. ‘I invented car design,’ he added.

On the subject of the "sameness" of current JLR design, a car pulled across a roundabout in front of me yesterday and I thought "ooh, that's a nice Evoque".

Got up behind it - and it was a Peugeot!

I don't think anyone mistook a Defender for anything else, even from half a mile away.

That is what they should be striving for with the new Defender, rather than massaging Mr McGovern's ego.

They are doing a good job in keeping us all guessing though!

I can barely tell them apart until I see the badge regardless of what make, or model, they are. More to the point I am not interested enough to want to tell them apart. It is just a seemingly never ending stream of bland design in either black, white or any one of 50 shades of grey.

^^ I agree entirely, well said.

I can't tell them apart and frankly don't care, they are vehicles which do not interest me in the slightest.
