Engine revving but no power
After some help please.

We've just completed the rebuild on my 300TDi 130 and everything was going fine until a few weeks ago the engine lost all power. It would rev but not move and we had to be towed home.

We assumed air was getting in the fuel as the exhaust fumes were white, so set about replacing the fuel lines, fuel sedimenter, fuel filter and housing, the lift pump, injector pump and injectors. The amount of fumes has greatly decreased but this has not fixed the revving problem.

The engine starts and runs fine, but once up to temperature and any throttle applied and released, the engine just starts to rev itself. We are at a loss of what to do next so any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks, Ell130

sounds like its trying to run on ts own oil, if its reving by itself? disconnect the air in take pipe to the mainifold from the intercooler, it'll probably be oily anyway, but if this stops the whiite smoke, and reving, then this is your problem.
The thing then is to find where its coming from, either the bores / ring damage, and its via the little black filter on top o/s of head, or its the turbo oil seals or turbo itself. Good luck and keep us posted

i concur on the running on its own oil

but that would not explain loss of power to, my experience of vehicle running on from their own oil is there is plenty of power! Cheers

Thanks for the help guys! I had it a bit wrong through, apparently when we were testing it, it was when the throttle was applied to the max that it started revving itself....any ideas?

same applies, the higher the revs, the more oil is being forced in to burn, from where ever. have you checked all your turbo hoses, especially the first one out of the turbo, as they break up internally, and can't see damage till you take it off. Do as I said, and remove the intake pipe from IC to manifold then try it, give it a few mins to warm up before you thrash the nuts off it. Sad
