"Yesterday, a friend told me a few details about the new Defender. They are about to create the pressing tools.

-there will be Alpine windows
-Back will be just like the old one
-The beautiful beading of the side wall will be smoother"

I know nothing, so ain't gonna waste anyone's time reading my "suppositions" when they are not based on anything factual at all.
So I will just say that IMHO the new Defender will be a sensation.
Am I right, or am I wrong?,..No-one knows.
Anyway, I just say, it will be good, VERY good.
And I say that, having sold our 2013 version. We've owned a fair range of cars, never had so much satisfaction as owning a Defender.....a "Works V8" would be the ultimate for me,...I have my doubts that the "new" Defender will be as good as that, in my book!!

Thanks for the translation, and well spotted. But what are Alpine windows? I tried Google, but no help. Cheers, Bruce.
Edit: Ah, the little roof windows!!! i never knew they had their own special name (my second google attempt found it).

Pieces are falling into place for the new Defender. If it's going to be based on a Discovery platform, it only makes sense that both are built in the same factory. it's a Landrover thing...

I don't keep up with this thread and have no clues about the new Defender, but can chip in with this ……

Yesterday, I had a complimentary off-road experience at Eastnor Castle and during an unprompted conversation with my instructor was told, the "new Defender" had been there during the previous week, he said little more other than that he was "very impressed" by the vehicle and that it had a "distinctive outline." I questioned him about dates and was told things were gearing up for sometime in 2019. It started with a kiss, never thought it would come to this.
SIII CSW Safari, limestone, (JAC 914N). Where is she now?

It's not a car, it's a way of life!

A discovery platform is actually a range rover platform. Or shall we just call it a land rover platform. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Built cheaply in Slovakia.

Sold expensively into English suburbia.

Makes sense financially.

But not historically. Evil or Very Mad

It's not like the British built ones were particularly well screwed together....

Never have understood why they didn't develop a replacement based on the tried & tested D3/4 platform before they canned the Defender - they had engines, manual gearbox, transmission, air & coil suspension & there was even a commercial version on sale already. Keep the chassis & drivetrain & do a 'face lift' on the body panels with reduced tooling requirements by using common components, etc.

But then they'd have to keep producing the old platform and the new platform. So you'd need more space, more tools, people etc..
