Nakatenenga spare wheel carrier with bike rack?
Afternoon all, I am looking to buy a two bike carrier for the land rover but have a swing away wheel carrier fitted, is it capable of taking the weight of the spare wheel plus bikes?

I was looking at a rack that would bolt onto the spare wheel plate. Jgs4x4 have a bearmach one that looks suitable but unsure about the swing away carrier situation.

Thanks

Mike

That looks like a good solution, it is no fun lifting spare wheels on and off defenders! 2016 Defender Landmark 90

Here's another option, Peruzzo.
I've done 400 mile journeys, secure and easy to fit.

I have a Naka wheel carrier and a Maxxraxx 5 bike rack,

You need the biggest spacer available to move the rack out but it WILL fit.

I have the 60mm one going from memory but could show a photo if you like.

Those racks look just the same as this one I have from Raleigh though mine is silver:

I have modded mine with a piece of angled aluminium to mount number plate and duplicate side/brake lights as they are covered when bikes are on.

By the use of a trailer board, Eric.

I realise that the OP's question was really about the strength of the wheel carrier than the bike rack itself, which doesn't seem to have a definitive answer and I can't help with. As far as the carrier itself goes though, I can highly recommend the offering from Fabbri Gringo. This is an excellent bit of kit that clamps and locks onto the spare wheel and then supports the bikes on two docking channels and swivel arm mounted clamps. No tools are required to fit it and there's no faffing around with bungees or straps to secure the bikes to it.

The docking channels can be folded up vertically so that the carrier can be left in place when the bikes have been taken off. It can even be converted to carry skis or snow boards if you're that way inclined, with the optional kits shown HERE. Darren

+ 1 Thumbs Up for the Fabbri Gringo - we use it with a naka wheel carrier and it's great. Only addition is one short bungee between the top of the bike rack and the roof rack - just keeps it from bopping around so much.

Use it on 1,000 mile trips across Europe no problems. 110 UW - '15 2.2

I bought the maxxrack, which is excellent in and of itself. But my intention was also to be able to use it with our camping trailer, but unfortunately it snags with the jockey wheel so I'm looking for another solution. Does anyone know if the Naka rack would similarly snag? 2.2 Tdci 110 XS CSW Corris Grey
