If it’s a 110 with the plastic tank you can do it by dropping the front of the tank cradle down and loosening (not removing) the two crossmember nuts. Just invest in a hole jodler to line the holes back up.
90 is harder to do. And top tip before you go swearing and cursing the hose clips for the heads being rotten and rounded off they solder them, you crack off the solder with snips or pliers and the heads underneath. |

it is a 110. So new clips needed...I think I will use jubilee clips. 1999 Defender TD5 110

I did this on my TD5 110 a couple of weeks ago. Rather than drop/ angle the tank i made a hole in the floor.

Cutting that hole and also a fuel pump access hole makes these jobs so much easier.
if you haven't replaced your fuel pump yet, it's only a matter of time before you need to sadly. |

It can be done without dropping the tank unless you have arms like Garth. Use a hacksaw blade in a close quarter hacksaw frame to cut the clip at the tank end and use a jubilee clip to refit it. If I remember rightly I used a few extensions on a 1/4" drive to fasten the clip up. It's fiddly as hell but I did it on mine in less than an hour and I'm not the most flexible of people.

I dropped the tank to do mine, as it was leaking fuel - both breathers had perished. It wasn’t that bad at all, certainly wasn’t worth cutting the floor over. The fuel pump failed around 6 month later and haveing done it already it was only a hours work to do it. It’s coming out again soon to fit the webasto fuel line
