Put a piece of plain paper behind the glass and you can quickly see if yours is tinted freen. It's a very subtle tint

I changed mine about 10 years ago for a heated screen and was given the option of both a clear screen or a tinted one.
I was also told there were 2 types of heated screen available, a 2 wire or a 4 wire. Not knowing the difference or benefits if one over the other beyond the price, I went for the cheaper 2 wire version as I thought it'd be the easier to wire up. Wrong move!! I have recently had a heated screen fitted to my D2 and got the one that matched the standard fitment wiring which is a 4 wire set up. By this I mean that each half of the screen is a separate circuit. My Defender heated screen still has 2 half sections but both are connected in a sngle circuit. The difference, well the Defender screen takes forever and a day to work whereas the D2 twin circuit one will clear the windscreen by the time I've programmed my SatNav! So the purpose of my reply is to recommend you get a 4 wire or twin circuit screen! They are both connected to a single switch but the 2 circuits means each covers half the screen therefore it seems it has effectively more power to clear the screen faster; or at least that's what I reckon! So don't make the same mistake I did and go on price and simplicity as its performance is pretty crap! That said, my Defender screen is now emulsifying at the bottom and woks even poorer now so it will be replaced when funds allow but with a 4 wire/twin circuit one next time! |
