Clutch flex hose securing nut size
Hi all,
Been fighting with a friends 1997 300Tdi replacing master and slave cylinders.

1st problem was disconnecting metal brake pipe from master cylinder, ended up using a lot of heat once pedal box was off the car.

Appears that previous owner didn;t bother using the small metal pipe that goes into the slave cylinder, they just stretched the flexible hose and screwed that directly into the cylinder. We're reinstating the bracket and small pipe.


Next problem .. disconnecting the flexible hose from the mounting bracket nearest the master cylinder. Needed to cut through the threaded part of the flexi hose to get it off.

To attach the new flexi pipe at that end looks easy, just need a 7/16 UNF nut to hold pipe onto bracket Nut costs about 56 pence.

However .... the nut used to hold the other end different size of course) onto the small brackets that bolds onto the slave cylinder is a whopping £7.35 ex VAT from land rover ( 25 tpi, ext diameter 0.465" part number 2K8686L)

Anyone know what size of nut this is ? land rover price is a bit eye watering .. although not as eye watering as the £73 ex vat they want for the brake pipe from the master cylinder to the flexi pipe though!

Please check the tpi. 7/16" UNF should be 20. You mentioned the old one had 25. That does not match UNF or UNEF. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

And of course stuff is still wrong.

The manual details the bits you need:- metal brake pipe from master cylinder to flexible pipe which connects to a wee metal brake pipe which in turn screws into the slave cylinder except ......

If you screw the metal brake pipe into the slave cylinder the other end doesn't fit the thread on the end of the flexible brake pipe. Everything bought specifying either reg number or chassis number.

Solution ? Same as it was when Pte got the car in the 1st place, screw the flexible hose directly into the slave cylinder and forget about the intermediate metal brake pipe!
