What concerns you about FL2 reliability?
We’ve had two, both of which have been used for horse trailer towing duties and the Fun Prevention Officer is not known for her mechanical sympathy... both have performed faultlessly with diesel in one end and windscreen wash in the other. The first one had a diff bearing go, but this was sorted under warranty and the second one was sold locally and I still see it around and spoke to the owner as we shared opposite sides of a fuel pump a few weeks back - apparently, still going strong. Both had good-ish mileage put on them and we were very pleased - to my mind, they are better than the Disco Sport that ‘replaced’ the FL2... |

The honest John write up looks a bit scary the hadex and rear diff, the car has 97k on it one owner fish.
In truth I like them as a tall person the qashqai seats are bad for my back. |

I had a Freelander 2 Sport LE SD4 was a very very nice motor but did suffer from diff failure! I would not hesitate to get another if they still made them!
My dad had a 1.6 Qashqai and although it was very nice it was really underpowered, and pretty plastic, he also had the top of the range with all the 360 cameras etc, Go with the diesel if you do warm towards the qashqai |

Think I read it wrong. And you already have the Qashqai. So yes the Freelander is a leap ahead of the Qashqai in terms of a solid feel and quality finish etc, I’d go with the SD4 auto if I was you

Yes we will part ex the Qashqai for the Freelander if she liked it.

My old man has a FL2, high spec HSE it’s a absolute pleasure to be in and plenty powerful enough to provide a smooth ride (SD4).
Diff bearing went at 40k, he noticed it straight away and had it done and a DPF sensor went down otherwise it’s been a great motor, he rates it highly. There’s a software update for the Haldex system that’s suppose to help with the known issues, he had to have a specialist apply it as main dealer didn’t seem that clued up and wouldn’t even admit it’s a known issue never mind patch it. Haldex are suppose to be sealed for life, but allot of people reccomend a service  |

Test drove the Freelander 2, collectingit Saturday, traded in the Qashqai, wife happy.
Few bits of work for me to do but nothing to heavy weight.  |

TJH1985 - would you mind letting me know which specialist carried this out? My old mans got an 11 plate Freelander 2 and has just had a new rear dif fitted as the previous one was rumbling terribly. I think it was more of a software patch to help prevent Haldex issues, something to do with how harsh the unit comes in although I am sure he also said this helps with the pinion bearing. I will find out some more info and report back

^^ this sounds like it.... like I say LR Dealer dismissed it but the specialist who refurbished the diff mentioned it and my old man watched him apply it with SDD so it certainly exists. |

We had the rear diff done, we had reduced price (allegedly) as its a known LR issue, although this was 3-4 years ago, might be worth asking at a main dealer/specialist? Jumped ship to reliability - Mitsubishi L200
