Parking Rules Applied - on a farm in Cumbria
We travelled for a week up in Cumbria, stayed on a farm and was pleased to find this working hard for a living -

Whilst we noticed lots of Japanese pickups working on farms we also spotted a number of late registration Defenders towing sheep trailers. Perhaps some purchased whist they could. We also past a large Land Rover dealership set in the middle of the countryside not far from Coniston. Showrooms and forecourts full of Discovery/RRS etc. No Defenders in sight Big Cry

I would imagine this dealership started to serve the farming community. Clearly a change of customer base now, must be plenty of people with deep pockets in the area to keep the business viable 2010 XS USW

You can tell it's a working Defender by the straw hanging out of the back. The other way to tell a working Defender is you can always find something that's been repaired with some bailer twine. Defender 90XS SW

I spend a great deal of time in both Wales & Cumbria...the lands of 90 pickups usually complete with Ifor tops!

Its all rather sad that JLR never really developed the Defender range to combat the ever so efficient, comfortable, capable & easily ownable far east pickups; I can't help but compare the arrogance of JLR to the British motorcycle industry of the 60's & its all there as evidence as to what happens when empires get rather fat & lazy...resting on laurels etc.

Their will be a time when Wales & Cumbria is bereft of 90 pickups working hard in the hills, but you will see Toyotas, Isuzus, Nissans etc...and they will be doing a good job.

And I can't see the new Defender filling the void...hopefully I'm wrong, I usually am (according to my wife) but on this occasion I prepared to wager that our great farming communities will be served by the far east...

Still we'll have a nice video of JLR management slapping themselves on the back to look forward to when the new Defender is launched...cant wait! Since 1973...S1, Air Portable's, Defender's, but only my Wolf TUL HS GS remains

I think I drove past those... maybe!

EDIT: Joris has a point.

Went up it on the 17th March, the buildings look familiar... other than being rather farm like! Chris

Aha I know the one - I drive past frequently too... It's about 2 mile SW of Torver:

Is that the one? Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Don't want to be rude and I sympathise with Defender owner solidarity, but with all the thefts one reads about it might not be a good idea to share the exact whereabouts of someone else's Defender.

Greetings,

Joris

Yes Lakeland Land Rover or as many people just know it as Hadwins. Eric Hadwin just started out serving the local farming community and well before the fancy new showrooms were built it was a typical country garage specialising is Series vehicles. They are well regarded still. They used to have lots of Series 2 and 3's with the odd smattering of Series 1's and prices were reasonable. I remember going up with a friend to buy an early 80in which my friend converted to a trials motor, it was just an old Land Rover in those days and worth little.
I used to take my 07 Puma there for servicing even though there were a few more local dealerships, as they knew Defenders well even though you rarely see one there now. it was nice to have a day in the Lakes while the Defender was being serviced Smile

Lakeland Land Rover also converted a lot of 110's and 130's for Mountain Rescue, I know they did one of ours and probably did the other one too but not 100% sure on that one Thumbs Up Cheers Ian

To be fair I did not give an exact location, the farm is at the end of a public highway and on at least 2 footpaths or byways which run through the middle of the land. I think the 4 large dogs on site probably would sort out any issues! 2010 XS USW
