Electrical gremlins..
I have an electrical fault on a 2000 Td5 110.

First I noticed no Dash lights panel lights, wipers or heater blower.

Gauge lights and everything else work. though.

Panel lights work sometimes when hazard lights are switched on.

On having a poke about for loose/broken connections I found the headlamp switch made the lighter socket live and sporadically switched on everything that the ignition key position 2 should make live.

I am waiting for warm enough weather to change the injector loom as there is oil getting into it but i am keeping the plug washed out.

I was thinking earth fault but now wondering whether I have a short elsewhere. Any bright ideas?

Thanks.

Maybe getting somewhere.....

The dim-dip does not work when the sidelights are on. I have located the relay and will try bridging it. Too dark now.

The other possible candidate is the VW 99 wiper relay so will swap that for the original Lucas relay too,

A painful process of elimination....... Confused

In case anyone is interested......

I checked the circuit diagrams and found that everything not working shared earth header C0289 and then on to C0550. So I took off the earth from the heater blower switch and fitted a jumper lead instead and it worked. C0289 behind the instruments looked OK so I moved on. C0550 is well hidden under the coolant header which has to be moved. I unbolted the header and used the jumper to a good earth and everything worked. I cleaned the bulkhead stud, header tag and nut with isopropanol, reassembled and ...Happy Days...everything works again. Added a good dollop of grease to the stud and put everything back together.

Very Happy
