Turbo Problem 2.4 Puma
Clutch replaced 6 weeks ago by Overland Worx in Johannesburg at 140 000 km. Pressure plate was intermittently sticking on spline and not releasing!!!

Repair ok but heat coming from tunnel covering gearbox seemed a lot warmer than before. Reported to Overland Worx but they seemed unconcerned.

Have just done a 1200 km round trip and at 300 km while driving at a steady 100 kph the motor seemed to loose power. ( as if I was braking while leaving my foot on the accelerator) Immediately stopped and switched off ignition (no management warning light had come on). Opened bonnet but could see nothing wrong (except tunnel covering being very warm - driving in shorts it was uncomfortable if your knee touched the tunnel).

All ok when I got back in and carried on with the rest of the journey down to the coast.

On my return yesterday the problem came back after about 50 km of driving. Although stopped it did correct itself but did not take long to loose power again. Was now aware that it was a turbo problem and I looked carefully at all connections and piping but did not remove the heat shield covering the turbo,

Limped the rest of the journey home with the the turbo occasionally kicking in and even sometimes hunting.

Any suggestions before I take the vehicle back to Overland Worx here in Johannesburg.

faulty loom - extended loom available where it stretches over the aircon compressor

Sticky turbo vanes - get some spray through the inlet

When it goes again, dont switch off, open the bonnet and watch while someone revs it up, see if the acuator moves on the turbo, then get them to switch off and see if it resets itself

good luck

Take it back to them, they have enough knowledge to sort out the problem. Is the inter cooler, pipes etc still standard, or have you done an upgrade? Did you get any warning lights when you lost power?

I had a similar problem which turned out to be a turbo with sticky vanes. You can look at the actuator and see whether it’s up or down. When it’s cold you can take the little circlip off and move it up and down manually. It should be really easy to move. Mine was fine when it was cold of warm but on a long run it would start playing up

The more problems the marrier.

Can be loom
Can be vanes
Can be actuator
Or you have a temp problem
- pel mod
- nakatanga nut
- bigger radiator

Or in my Case 4 out of 4

Oh forgot split turbo hose a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover

Split Turbo hose, is one commonly missed.
Easy to overlook.
