Update: A used roof tent appeared on eBay 2 miles from my home, Echo4x4 T-Top with 'Add a Room'. They're a South African brand and appear very well made. It offers a bit more functionality than my current tent for the time being so I'm going to give it a go.

Just need to figure out how to attach it to a G4 type roof rack? Previous owner had it bolted to roof rails on a Discovery.
Any suggestions welcome.

Had a go at fitting the tent today.
Bought a selection of bits fro Screwfix and eBay,

Ended up giving this a go,

Used four and it seems to be quite solid, I'll keep my eye on it. Due to the "Add A Tent" the roof tent bit has to be installed off centre so that the valance with the Velcro hangs down over the side of the vehicle. This means that when it's unfolded half of it is unsupported by the rack. According to Echo4x4 this is OK and the tent doesn't even need the ladder for support.

Overall I'm quite happy with this set up for now although I may keep an eye out for an Oztent. Thumbs Up

Looks good, don’t worry about the lack of support for the folded out half - if they’ve got an under tent attached they have to be like that otherwise you couldn’t attach it x they are all like that here’s mine, but without the undertent attached.

Cheers Chris, luckily I hadn't bolted it down before I noticed that it needed to be moved!

Should I look at things like the Oz tent?

I would. I sold my Maggiolina Safari and bought an Oztent RV3 with side panels. The Mrs agrees... there's so much more room to get changed and you can actually stand up. A more comfortable environment.

The Maggi is a cool bit of kit and packs away insanely quick but it really is just for sleeping in. Always was a bit of a pain climbing out of etc...
