The days usually work out leaving the campsite at 0845ish and finishing the off road at around 1600 then travel back to the camp site, this can vary dependent on which estates we are using.

We stop throughout the day- more so if the weather is fine!

Usually we aim to have a couple of short breaks in the morning, a decent lunch and a break in the afternoon- on the Ardverike estate we have the opportunity to walk to some lovely waterfalls in on the trip too.

There will be various stops for photographs throughout too.

Hi Keith,

My two boys (9 and 11) at the time did fine, they loved it, whenever we stopped they were out the truck and mingling with everybody and off exploring (or sitting on the roof of the truck).

But I did ensure they had iPad fully loaded with movies / tv shows just in case Smile

I found this 4x4 trip had more actual off-road fun than the alps overland trip we did last year if that helps Smile

My boys will be 13 and 11 at the time of the trip, they still talk fondly about that trip!!

Andy,

Feedback is much appreciated. Their all involved in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts so love the camping and outdoor stuff. Equally I would be surprised if they're not also sat on top of the roof everytime we stop.

i brought my lad last time, 11yr old and he had a ball.

not to much driving and plenty of pit stops.

highlights was rewiring a 90 on the beach, upland inland beaches and Sundays hill climb to the old tv mast for a lunch halt.

the longest drive was getting to and from the highlands from Lancashire.

hoping to be up again for this one.

The campsite is child friendly too- they do just ask (not unreasonably) that everyone is quiet after 9pm.

hi folks - couple of q's:

(i) is there still space?
(ii) understand it's kid friendly - is it dog-friendly (well-behaved) - both the 4wd and the campsite?

might be able to trundle up.....

Hi,

I believe that the 5/6th is now fully booked, I will ask Ian to check tomorrow.

The 12th/13th still has availability.

Children are welcome and well behaved dogs- just be aware that some sections of the route are very rough.

The campsite do ask that dogs are kept on a lead, and obviously that any mess is cleared up.

Given the 8.30 meeting time on Sat where are people camping/staying the night before?

Did anybody camp at the same site both nights and just leave tents pitched through the Sat?

I intend to stay at the same site on Fri and Sat night...

If the weather is completely awful there's a bunkhouse in Newtonmore, and a variety of accommodation options in Aviemore (and no doubt some in Kingussie)... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

We will probably leave Essex Thursday Big Cry Would be good if we're actually fairly close by Friday night, I will have to investigate.
On the subject of camping, we currently have a roof tent, do you think this will be suitable?

Hi Pete

I had a roof tent fitted to my 90 when we did the last trip
It worked a treat

It was just a nuisance having to pack it away in the morning, and it did make the 90 feel a bit unwieldy on some of the steeper sections whilst off road. Also a tight fit when weaving through the trees and driving up the river on the last day , I got snagged on a tree and bent the roof rack Whistle

Thanks, I was thinking about the packing away in the morning bit, I might look into bringing a ground tent instead.
