Rear work light bulb
Hi
My dealer fitted Defender rear work light (Rtc8921aa) has stopped working. I believe the bulb has gone.

Can anyone tell me the type of bulb it uses?

Also has anyone replaced the bulb with an led one? If so any recommendations?

Thanks
Paul

I'm pretty sure that it's an H3 55w halogen but it's a moments work to take the cover off so it's probably best to check. Darren

Bin the halogen one and put an LED replacement in it.

Thanks for the responses.

I tried to remove the bulb today. I unscrewed the 4 screws at the front and removed the protective mesh and glass to expose the bulb.
However I could not see how one removes the work lamp bulb. I tried pulling it but that didn’t seem to work. Admittedly I didn’t pull too hard for fear of breaking the lamp.
Do I just need to pull a bit harder or is there something I need to do? Sorry for being a bit dense here but I couldn’t see anything obvious.
Thanks

These sorts of bulbs are retained from behind by a wire spring. Just like a headlight. There must be a way of getting to the back of the bulb but without seeing the lamp it's difficult to be any more precise. Darren

Thanks I did think that it should be removed from the back but can’t see how one gets access to it.
Maybe I need to remove the switch at the back but again can’t see how.

Is it not a push in and twist fitting?
I've got one too but not had to change the bulb yet.

It's a long time since I had a set of these, but I think you have to gently pry the reflector out from the rear case to access the bulb mounting.

I don't recall the rear switch coming off and be careful turning it from off to on and back as it's easy to go too far and the metal contacts then don't line up to power the circuit.

I had a pair mounted off the windscreen pillars

Didn't last very long before the reflectors started to corrode, maybe quality has improved, and maybe the fitment location contributed to that; but when you slide the front face on maybe use some silicone grease to help waterproof and also make taking apart again easier.

H3 agree with other gents but you should go for led and drop the halogen.. Happy Travel

Supacat you are correct. After a while I managed to pry the reflector out from the rear case to access the bulb.

The reflector was badly corroded, pretty poor considering it is only two years old!

Thanks everyone for the responses 👍

LED bulb arrived today so will replace at the weekend.

Assuming you had it fitted by the dealer as part of the purchase of a new vehicle (or I think even up to six months after) then the part will be covered by a 3 year warranty - the liklihood is they'll swap the whole part rather than replace a reflector...and you might get a new bulb thrown in for free!

Good point Supacat.

I have emailed my dealer and I’ll see what he says.

Thanks
