2004 General Grabber TR
I plan to remove my 13 year old TRs this year and replace with the same (probably). Tread of tyres is 4-5 mm and 2 tyres have some UV damage to the external side walls. Is it worth offering them for sale once removed?

I personally think they are a great tyre. Discrete, quiet and does loads of miles (tyre dealer recons 80-100k is possible). I only do about 2-2.5k miles a year mainly on road, with some farm tracks/lanes when shooting.

Agree with you (and I’m probably the only one Laughing) that GG TR are a good classic summer tire suiting our cubes quite well. Not for serious off-road use of course, but that is not a problem for me. Whistle
Now as to your question, I personally think that 13 year old tires should simply be disposed off, not sold on anymore. I would not feel happy driving in traffic on any 13 year old tire with 4/5 mm thread. They have done their time, safety becomes a potential risk here.
Are GG TR still available in UK? Not here in this country, I had to ask Continental Tires Germany to make special delivery to Switzerland a few years ago when I wanted to buy 4 new ones. They did without hesitation though.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Reading with interest as probably be looking to replace TRs on my 90 some time soon too. However considering the conti cross contacts ATs instead as fitted on later Defenders...

TRs and Continental Cross Contacts are top of list, with a slight bias towards the contis. Might try the General Grabber AT, but understand these are in run out mode so one off replacement down the road might be harder and a bit more expensive.

If any one has a set that are under 3 years old please let me know. 235/85/16 is the required size.

Having recently changed to BFG AT2 after 11 years of driving GGTR there is no way I would go back. So much more grip on and off the road.

My BFG are standard 235/85 size.

I had general grabber the then new ats on my old discovery, they seemed very good on road. I didn't test them too far off road apart from light green lanes, were good in snow though.
May be mistaken but not sure that they are still available?

If I would ever change away from the GG TR as a summer tire, I’d probably turn to the relatively recent GG AT2.
Seems a nice alternative for the BF Goodrich AT2. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Right - new contis ordered. Fitting tomorrow. If anyone wants (free) 4 TRs with about 4-5mm of tread all made in 2004 and they can get to South Molton they are yours.
