Sadly not much news to update this with. I have been gathering some period bits and pieces though so spanners will soon be called upon and hopefully I'll have a more interesting update soon.
I have been researching roller garage doors and this lot have been recommended: http://www.rollerdor.net/
Anyone here with experience?
Looks like the way forward so after some careful measuring I'll place an order and that'll at least mean I can get the Ninety out to play again Thumbs Up Instagram: l90andy

I had one of these installed at a previous house. Solved the height issue - plus there's no problem driving in forwards.

Would definitely recommend.

Nice 90. The 6.00x16 tyres would have been the standard fit initially, not long before 205s became the standard though. 2011 110 USW

Yeah I've seen quite a few of this age on 205's. I do like the 600's but they were old and ropey and weren't good enough to continue using. 750's feel like a nice 'factory' upgrade.

Not much of interest or even worth photographing in terms of progress, but I have spent an enormous amount of time upto my elbows in Nitromors stripping the old nato green paint off the hood stick door surrounds.
I love all the galv on the car so the effort has been worth it to uncover even more!

Next steps, drilling the screen surround for the header rail and getting the hood fitted. Instagram: l90andy

Soft top all fitted. Bonus 'proper Land Rover' points now.

All went smoothly, although need to have another look at how the round hood seal fits with the header rail and adjust the quick release handles a bit.
Also need two strap hooks for the top of the screen straps - anyone got any spare??

Garage tweaks still required to actually get the thing out now, although new budget restrictions (extension build) mean the posh roller door will be on hold and I'll just side hinge the existing door off a more robust frame. I've done the CAD to determine opening height and I reckon I'll have about 10mm spare. Not that it will be going anywhere as the builders are due to drop a skip in front of it.

Budget restrictions also mean buying less bits for this. Boo.
Good news is I've accumulated lots of bits already so I can keep at it for the foreseeable. Yay.
Daily Land Rover fix provided by more modern version...

Progress! On the garage rather than 90 though...
I have managed to convert the up and over door to a side opening affair. By altering the timber frame work too I have gained about 270mm extra height.
Spent about £25 on timber and hardware and now have a higher opening, more secure and rattle-free garage door. Well pleased with that. Very Happy
I'll do the posher roller shutter job eventually but for now being able to get the 90 out is the main thing.
In the next instalment, actual Land Rover content I promise!

Builders finally moved the skip and the garage door mod worked so I managed to get the thing out today!
Here it is out in the cold morning air:

Went a local drive around to warm everything through, much better once I found some sun:

Can't remember the last time I started it up but it fired almost immediately, no choke. Well, I did a bit.
Love the sensation of pootling around with the canvas flapping, the tailgate chains rattling, the draughts going straight up my leg. Gotta love Land Rover's. Must admit I think I enjoyed this half hour drive more than my old Puma 110 as its back to basics and the essence of why I got interested in the first place. Very Happy
Got plenty of things planned for it, but its moving to a new temporary home so the builders can progress our house project. That means I'm unlikely to be able to play with it for a while. Hopefully house all sorted before the summer so I can properly enjoy it then. Thumbs Up Instagram: l90andy

That looks spot on Andy - I really do love your new toy. So many ‘ruined’ early examples out there but yours is just so honest and uncluttered. Very jealous!

Pleased the garage door mod worked too - phew! Thumbs Up

Very nice. Thumbs Up

You might be warmer in winter if you fit a fume curtain behind the seats. You can just see one in the photo of my Sept '84 Ninety, a soft top from new.

With that fitted and a heater that works, there is no reason to be cold (especially if you are used to old Land Rovers! Whistle)
