APK, As you were happy with your first service & your discussion with "Arnie", & as that Dealer did a good job for you,...why don't you go simply back there?

Pickles, because they responded with the highest quote this time. I was told Peasmarsh was given the liberty for 12 months to offer discounts to ex-Guava/loyal customers. The 12 months have elapsed and they now follow policy of the main dealer. The labour costs bring the 2nd service close to £900 (several hundred more than the lowest quote). Strangely enough, other dealers do not have the limitation of offering discounts when I cold call.

I wouldn't be posting on this forum if price was everything though... Wimbledon for example offers the service at a much lower price point but the feedback has been poor from forum members here. I have used Lookers Battersea in the past and they seemed uninterested in dealing with anything other than Discos and Range Rovers.

Assuming most forum members get their servicing done by authorised agents in the first 3 years to maintain warranty, hoping there are some personal recommendations re great customer service (at a reasonable price) near SW London.

Best, APK

You don't actually have to use a Franchised Dealer to maintain the warranty. Any VAT registered garage will do, it's obviously not a warranty term that Land Rover like to make too prominent, but it is in the T&C's.

It was part of the block exemption made in EU competition law for the motor industry. To summarise, car manufacturers were allowed to continue to restrict sale of their vehicles via franchised dealers and drop the requirement that they continue to supply parts for 10 years. In return manufacturers had to give up requirements for franchised dealer servicing, and make technical data and special tools available to anyone that wanted it for a reasonable fee.

Did not receive any recommendations for franchised dealers/independents. I will probably call around and pick the most reasonable or closest.

At least now you know you can use indies and still maintain your warranty Thumbs Up
As you said looking on LR website Service link, Wimbledon are the cheapest by far!!
Indy I would recommend AJS https://www.reigate-tyres.co.uk/Content/Pa...20Services near Reigate / Junction 8 on M25, who have positive feedback on hear, also have a look on previous 1st/ 2nd service threads as others have also recommended indies in this part of the world too
Best of luck, I look forward to your further findings and outcome. Wink

Has anyone serviced/had any warranty work done on their Defender at Guy Salmon Land Rover, Thames Ditton?

Appreciate feedback please - are they knowledgeable and customer oriented?

Thank you.

Mechanic/technician recommendation
Hi all,

I collected my Defender from a Land Rover authorized service centre following the 5th annual service and yet again it has been a very disappointing and frustrating experience.

As I have always wanted to be more involved in the regular maintenance of my Defender 110, I was hoping someone here could recommend a mechanic who would be happy to hand-hold/teach me how to service my own vehicle the next time around.

I will obviously pay for the time, and will either buy or bring my own parts etc.

The independents I checked with, require me to drop the vehicle off and pick it up when done. I therefore do not even have an opportunity to watch the work being done on the vehicle.

As I assume this would mean OSH cannot be updated, I will buy a service booklet and would like the mechanic to stamp the book so I have a record of the service.

Appreciate any recommendations if such a mechanic/garage comes to mind. Willing to drive if it’s a reasonable distance from Surrey.

Thank you!

Kind Regards APK

Whilst I appreciate the intent, that sounds a bit like turkeys voting for Christmas Confused

If you'd be happy with somebody that will service it for you and not fleece you for the privilege, I can recommend Challenger 4x4 in Tongham near Aldershot. Darren

I doubt anybody will teach you to service your own vehicle as per LRA's post above. Rgds.

Hi all,

Has anyone had their Defender (pre 2016) serviced at Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works in Coventry www.jaguarlandroverclassic.com?

If yes, appreciate thoughts in terms of service and cost please.

I'd find it hard to believe that it's going to be any cheaper than the dealer quotes that you mention earlier in the thread. I'd imagine that it's only a service worth paying for if you have a very pampered classic rather than and everyday vehicle. Darren

They don't need to be cheaper so long as they look after the vehicle better than the dealers I have come across. APK

If you genuinely wish to learn about servicing your own vehicle, I'd look at local colleges for one with a vehicle maintenance course. Some will let you take in your own car to work/learn on.

Not usually expensive, and would certainly pay for itself relatively quickly.
