TD5 possible performance issues
Ever since ive had my TD5 ive found it a little sluggish in the gears and it will struggle on hills in 3rd/4th if i dont get a run up. I have the 15p engine and compared to a friends 10p his is definitely more responsive through the gears but has about 90k less on the clock. i tried running with disconnected MAF and it seems a little better but not much and might be in my head. One thing i do notice it there is a slight whistle as you accelerate past around 40mph which is more noticeable as you get up to 60 etc. I do wonder if its an issue with the turbo or hose of something as there is a definite lag .

Any ideas what to check for? i have nt plugged in my trusty odb2 BT dongle and used the torque app yet as there is no engine light on the dash.

Check the usual

- oil in the red plug of the ECU, if so then replace the injector harness
- Clean the MAP sensor on the inlet manifold
- check for blockages in the air intake
- check for any leaks/splits/delamination of the turbo hoses
- check the wastegate on the turbo is free, lube up anyway
- check the EGR isnt blocked if fitted. If not then blank off anyway
- is the MAF sensor genuine?

Genuine ones will have VDO Siemens marking on them somewhere. If replacing only replace with genuine Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

The whistle could be from a warped exhaust manifold, but should do it at related engine revs as opposed to speed. Look for soot marks on the engine side of it. Whilst checking the hoses, make sure all the clips are tight and they haven't slipped back.

- oil in the red plug of the ECU, if so then replace the injector harness
ECU is under the drivers seat
Injector harness is under the rocker cover, top of the engine. Very easy to change

- Clean the MAP sensor on the inlet manifold
Inlet manifold is on the left of the engine if looking at it face on, sensor is in the middle

- check for blockages in the air intake
- check for any leaks/splits/delamination of the turbo hoses
Locate the turbo on the right hand side of the engine, follow the soft rubber hoses thru the engine bay

- check the wastegate on the turbo is free, lube up anyway
Check google for pics

- check the EGR isnt blocked if fitted. If not then blank off anyway
Plenty on youtube for this one. Landrover toolbox videos are a great way to learn.
- is the MAF sensor genuine?

My alternator belt squeels when cold but seems to fix itself when warmed up.

Hi

I'm convinced the MAF is duff on my car it makes little difference if it is connected or disconnected. It's getting power I've checked that on multimeter. How do I tell if it's duff or not though for sure? I saw a video showing to disconnect it while engine running and if engine stalls it's working, is that right or will I do damage?
