Headlamp washer reservoir part number
.. the part number for the washer reservoir that would have been used for a genuine factory installation of headlamp washers?

The headlamp washer pump used on genuine Defender headlamp washers is the same as used on the Disco 1 and 2, RRC, and several other models, but it is a larger diameter motor than the front and rear screen washer pumps used on the same vehicles. It won't actually fit in place of either the front or rear pumps on a normal Defender reservoir (which is a shame, since I had intended to fit in in the empty rear pump space on my truck).

Only a Defender reservoir fits a Defender, so for example a Disco 2 reservoir simply won't fit. It would be possible (there is space, just) to open another hole in a Defender reservoir to fit the pump, but before I did so I wondered if anyone knew what reservoir was actually used by LR for the purpose.

Does anyone on here have a Defender with a genuine factory fit headlamp washer system, and if so is there any chance of a photo of the reservoir?

Many thanks!

Fantastic, many thanks for the info!

Mind you I've just looked up the price and it is just under £100 for the washer bottle, and that doesn't even include the lid! Shocked

No wonder it wasn't a popular option.

Shocked there must be other options. I could take a pic of one from the range rover if you like? Also has level sensor Whistle 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

I think the simple option is to mount the pump on the side of the standard reservoir, which has an advantage in that the headlamp pump will be a little higher than the screen pump, so the headlamps will run out first thus warning of low fluid.

There is so little space under the bonnet that I don't think a RRC or Disco2 res would fit (I have a spare D2 res), but thanks for the offer of a photo.

Are you going to have them so they only work with the lights on? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

I haven't yet decided how I will do it, but it will be one of the following:

1 ) Wire them so they squirt with the screen washers if the headlights are on.

2 ) Wire them so they are on their own squirter button but only squirt when the headlights are on.

3 ) Wire them so they are on their own squirter button but squirt whether or not the lights are on.

4 ) Combine 1 and 4 for the best of both worlds.

I wasn't planning to bother with a timer relay, at least not initially.

I suspect that they'll empty the reservoir fairly quickly.

For £100 plus other bits and fitting, you could just lean out of the window at traffic lights and pay pedestrians to wipe the headlights! Very Happy
