Anyone got any good skiing trips
Hi,

Was considering going skiing this winter, I have driven before, taking the Hull-Zebrugge ferry and then a long drive in one go to the French alps. However the place we usually stay isn't available, and I would like to have a more serene journey there and back, breaking it up over two days and staying overnight somewhere nice. Has anyone else done this and got any good recommendations where to stay for both skiing and the overnight stops there and back?

Thanks

Alastair

Can't tell you where to stay en-route, I have always driven in one hit. Although from Zebrugge Reims might be about half way. But I can tell you where to go Thumbs Up

And I can vouch for that, St Gervais is spot on for a family ski holiday. Thumbs Up

Further afield, but the best - and best value - skiing is perhaps to be found in Bosnia.

Bjelašnica which hosted the men’s events in the 1984 Winter Olympics, or Jahorina which hosted the women’s (which I personally preferred, possibly because I lived nearer).

Both resorts now built up since the war, but both close enough to Sarajevo to stay there more cheaply and commute in the Defender.

Check them out…

I’m a member of snowheads http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/

It’s a wide and varied group of like minded people, typically ranging from 30’s to 80+ year olds.

I’ve been on quite a few of the club trips, this year heading to Alleghe in the Italian Dolomites in January and then Val Thoren in April for some end of season snow.

I can’t recommend the club highly enough, not pretentious at all. 2015 110 Defender Heritage Utility Station Wagon

Come to Slovenia. You can stay in Ljubljana for the sights and restaurants and skiing is only 25 minutes away at Kravavec. Cheap too.

Used to do Calais to French Alps in one hit before kids (and not in a Defender). Post kids, now usually stop off in each direction and certainly if taking the Defender.

Normally choose a Novotel as they are quite cheap, reasonable quality, don't mind you turning up late, can squeeze four in a room and are usually close to the main road, often in a retail park or similar. Dijon is a popular one. Also stayed in a Hotel Kyriad on the last trip, more of an aparthotel, but we squeezed loads of us in. I've seen plenty of these by the roadside as well, so obviously a growing chain.
