Tree/rock sliders and steps?
I installed my rock sliders more for side impact and car park dent protection more than anything and i'm thinking about fitting a set of these: http://www.paddockspares.com/pm411-defende...-pair.html and then putting a 2" gwyn lewis suspension kit on mine.

Two requests really:

Has anyone fitted these quick fit side steps and what do you think of the product?

Has anyone got any photos of tree sliders and steps like these fitted? 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

Haven't got those particular steps (I have the fire & ice) but most are very similar in terms of dimensions and fittings based on what I've seen. The quality does vary though as other forum members will point out.

I'd say half a dozen nuts/bolts a side means they are all relatively quick fix. Thumbs Up

Dependant on the type and dimensions of the tree/rock slider fitted you may struggle to actually use the steps if you fit both.

That said, only having the steps fitted myself with std cills I am only stating an uninformed perception! Thumbs Up

Good luck with the other modifications - you won't go wrong with Gwyn Lewis Thumbs Up

I had those type of side runners / steps on mine but over the 4 years I've had the defender I decided to change them to single side steps. Reason was for practicality as fold down side steps are easier to help get in / out of defender and also cleaning underneath is now much easier!

Rocksliders and steps
A few photos with rock sliders + foldable steps. The rock sliders are made of 80x50x3 mm stainless steel. The normal rocksliders are 80x40x3 mm.

Another possibility are rock sliders with integrated step - we call it "grandpa's step" Smile.

I do a fair bit of offroading with my Defender and made up my own rocksliders with treebars as well. I had a full set of fold up original steps and found the very easy to use but even when folded up they were vulnarable

I didn't want to do away with the steps as they're really comfortable to use so I adapted mine by cutting all the folding parts off, welding some angle and they now fit by sliding the two angle iron "legs" up through the gap between the slider and the tree bar and are fixed with an M8 bolt going through a welded nut on the "leg" and against the rock slider. This pulls the leg against the treebar and locks them in place.

Yes they are vulnerable but are straightened out a lot more easily but if you know you're going to be in ruts or tight places then a 13mm spanner or socket soon removes them in a matter of minutes

I haven't got any close up pictures but try these;

LOL, if I had to use a ‘wire-step’ like that it would be a matter of time before I lose my front teeth or break my foot. Maybe both at the same time. 😂

Guys, I had the same worry (it was my dads idea) but it works perfectly. No unsafe feelings whatsoever despite my fears!
