Argh yes, of course! The Diesel Turbo was introduced in '86, which would make the very earliest ones on 'C' plates so if Geoblokes' picture is right, the vent must have been introduced some time during the '87 MY.

Sometimes you cant go off the registration mark. My October 1985 built 90 should have been a C registration but it was hanging around for a year and was not registered until October 86 with a D registration. I imagine that as a V8 it wasn't as popular in the mid 80's as the more economical diesels.

When i have fitted 200s we have often tried the 2.5td Metal air filter.

With 300s for ease as engine sits further fwd we used def 300 filter boxes. I expect ther 300disco one would go where td5 goes near bulkhead?

I would drop engine in with rad, wings on and see what fits best Cheers

Land Rover 109 Santana wings and air box Question pos
redact this , had look at generator pic from old job this type air filler fitted to the Perkins engine horizontally over driver end i.e. over the fly wheel with control panel in front close fitted to it

with this at least inlet to air box is up the top wing but in wrong place river or ford crossing, have seen in the past local farms 90 with same air box type but with short fex pipe work going back from the air box up to top of the inner wing and the air box had a drain at the bottom with one these fitted

Thanks all. I think the engine will sit exactly where he current 200tdi set up is, as I’m not changing the lt77 gearbox I currently have. I will keep options open though. Still some time off as this is the current state of the rebuild

Would you consider fitting some sort of K&N filter under the bonnet to save replacement wings or cutting?

Hi,

In our early 110 I fitted a 300tdi and managed to find a tube that came out of the blanked off vent on the drivers side wing top and then adapted a through wing raised air intake to suit.

To be honest I would rather not have a raised intake or a wing side intake but I believe you cannot run a 300tdi without one.
