Cutting out, strange symptoms
Had some trouble recently with my TD5 (2002MY) cutting out without warning, I lose all drive, power steering etc, I don't see any lights on the dash (oil, battery, check engine) and hazard lights wont come on.

I can usually at this point stick the clutch in,turn the ignition key off and back on and be on my way. Anyone else seen this issue and point me in the direction of a possible cause?

2. check battery POS terminal good and sound

3. check main relay under driver seat, relay terminal can work loss

As it sounds like it's been turned off, a faulty switch on the end of the ignition barrel is a good possibility. Darren

I had a similar issue on my old 90, turned out to be a corroded main battery earth, fitted a new one fine ever since.

I saw in this thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56773.html (about a puma) that if the trip doesn't reset to zero it's unlikely to be an earth/battery issue and is more likely main relay or ignition switch, is this true for a TD5 as well?
