Skills!!!

That and dry stone walling always amaze me.

I'd opt for walling though, I don't work well with heights!! Scumbag.

Just seen this, great work Clayton, a real traditional work of art. Is it a new build or major renovation? House? Stunning views. I too am surprised you need celotex under a thatched roof. Can't wait to see it unwrapped if you're allowed to post. James

Beautiful, Theres just something in a Thatched roof that appeals to me , I know many love the concrete/glass minimalist thing, but give me a stone walled small windowed natural roofed place with a log fire and i'm a happy camper.

Thanks for sharing 3 Landrovers

GREAT work, we do not see any thatched roofs in Aussie.
But, being an old Pom, I do appreciate, & miss, the old historical buildings/history etc that abound in the U.K.
So, how long would a roof like this last? Does it have to be treated with a preservative/water proofing agent etc?
Pickles.

Well Pickles, the Water Reed ( is a collective name for the Reed you know as Norfolk Reed, but you can get it from most places overseas ) that we are using at the moment is top quailty stuff and is Chinese Water Reed Shocked yes but it is the best out there at the moment, well has been for quiet a few years now Wink As for the time it lasts, that depends on the area's around the UK, so in Devon this roof, the main coat ( Water Reed ) should last approx 20-25 years, could push to 30 years and then the ridge on the top should be done in Devon Reed ( same as straw but specially grown for thatchers and then harvested in a totally different way than using a combine ) and that should be renewed every 6-10 years and there is a " thing " at the moment between thatchers whether you should put some stuff on it to help it last longer, But the ends of the Reed should be open and aloud to breath, otherwise it could reduce the length of the thatch life, hope this helps you Pickles Wink Very Happy 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.
