i look at same thing 10 year ago with my 90HT 03 change thermostat but not Temperature gauge movement will ways it go`s bit before 1/2 way the only time it will higher is rad blanket is fitted summer or you go much there've south on the planet 40 c + is day time temp
also same when towing big boat bit before 1/2 way or bit over haft way on long hills clime towing |

Even when its cold, I never seen the gauge that low on the drive to work. Driving down M6 from Penrith for 3 hours on Sunday all was OK, Monday the gauge decides that its not moving. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Managed to get the needle to move more, took car on the motorway, temp got 70c. Once back in traffic at 30mph/start stop temp started to drop.
I did notice as the temp was around 55c the radiator was showing signs of warmth. Picked up some more red OAT on the way just in case. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Today I decided to drop the coolant and go back to the original one I took off.
Tested the old one by pouring hot water from the kettle into to the top of the Y section and eventually the water dripped though the bottom pipe. Removed the current suspect thermostat and looked OK. To test to see if the current one was stuck open, (in the style of the Fast Show professor) I placed them both on a bit of tissue paper and added cold water to both of the top Y section pipes. Picture = 1000 words etc.  Click image to enlarge Original & dirty one on the left - new suspect one on the right. Note the puddle on the tissue paper. Topped up the coolant with another 5l of coolant and more water. Took the car for a spin and the needle moved more than it has done all week. Temp (according to Nanocom) got to 91c Time to let the car rest and tomorrow will check coolant level. At the mo, I think the issue is fixed. All caused by a thermostat purchased in July. I did also wonder if water pump was failing....but the after starting the car up I had forgot to put the top pipe bleed cap on so I had a small fountain! Pump works ok
