Td5 battery drain

2005 CSW; fine until now. Left standing over weekend and would not start this morning - battery completely flat.
Called RAC, got it going with a booster pack. When the engine was switched off, tester showed 7 amp discharge. Any ideas what I should look for? Thanks.

Could be a defective diode in the alternator. Cheers, Vincent

Thanks, I did wonder about that since speaking to others, and there seems no other area of leakage; have ordered a replacement alternator.

Unplug the alternator and see if the battery drain stops, before throwing another one at it.

Hi, attempted that and undid the cable with rubber cover on, but couldn't get the multiplug off the back as I don't have elastic fingers! (God knows how it's done).
But I'm going to put a new fan belt on so may as well replace the unit at the same time. I disconnect the battery overnight.

(btw, if you're in Stockport, you'll probably know the crew at the shop near Nelstrop's, behind Lancashire Hill! - I'm up the road near Parrs Wood).

Oh yes you mean Land Ranger Services?

Never used them though, are they OK?
