Well. The time finally came when the Ol'girl needed a new set of boots.
The old 235/85/16 Continental Cross Contact ATs have done sterling work and many many 10s of thousands of miles on and off road. They are a superb tyre and so much better than the General Grabber TRs... But... Time for a change. Apart from anything they look tired. First impressions are that the new BFGs are much MUCH quieter on the road than the Contis and that is even with more rubber in contact with the road. And before anyone thinks anything it was my Wife that said it first and that was with the windows down too. Result! 
The increase in gearing is very noticeable with the Discovery transfer box and 3rd being slightly taller is a good side effect. We will see how the motorway cruising and hills are effected this weekend. Cheers Kit. Been looking forward to fitting these for ages. If they had been available in 255/85/16 then those would have been my first choice.

The old tyres on top are not spares, but are being donated to a mates 109 project. Amazing the effect having just three tyres on the roof has to the vehicles lean in corners...

Glad to hear it JST. Keep an eye out, will be heading Okehampton way this weekend... Nothing like a good trip to Devon to break in the new boots...

if you really want to break them in then bypass to David Bowyers site where we are having a little session on the off road course there.. 1400- 1700hrs. Cheers

Geobloke the BFGs look great
 Do you have spacers fitted? I'm toying with changing to boosts but worried about reducing the turning circle. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

i didnt both with spacers on mine, in fact i took them off (although it is on a 90) Cheers

Hi Harry. Yes I still have my 30mm spacers on. I did originally want to get rid of them and fit a set of rims with a different offset. Even with the spacers the 285/75/16 tyres on boosts just rub the radius arms. This is a fun job for this weekend should I get half hour between friends and dog training...
