Opie Oils
Miller Oils
Morris Lubricants

Plenty of options out there, use all in the past - as long as it meets the correct spec then shouldn't really matter. Ed

This ^^^

Gear oils aren't subjected to the same extreme environment as engine oils (where it may pay to be a bit more picky) and so as long as the spec is correct then it really doesn't matter. Darren

Comma oil too.

But as above, the transfer box and diffs on Defenders all use pretty basic oils.

This may sound like me being stupid but is that mobilube shc 75w90 the same as ep 75w90

I have some comma mtf75w90 at home but I thought the ep was for extreme pressure and had other properties other than viscosity.

Or am I looking into this too much?

Interestingly.. Comma recommend MVMTF Plus 75w-90 for the gearbox and EP80w-90 GL5 for the transfer box. (for a 2.2 DPF and they claim a 100% compatibility guarantee) http://www.commaoil.com/products/results/92085637

Just realised yours is a 2001 TD5 according to your avatar. http://www.commaoil.com/products/results/92085637

they recommend MVMTF Plus 75W-80 for gearbox and EP80W-90 GL4 for the transfer box.

Doesn't really help your question, but thought it interesting as you mentioned you had a bottle of Comma MVMTF

Well I emailed Dave at ashcroft as they know a fair bit about transmissions and he said any ep80 any ep90 and and 75w90 regardless of the prefix. So I think I'll use my existing comma mvmtf 75w90
