Rear brake disc - minimum thickness
On checking the rear brake discs, they are down to 10/11mm thick (with a lip)
What is the minimum thickness that is suggested? 1999 Defender TD5 110

For the expense, I'd probably get them replaced if you're concerned. Peace of mind too.

I am leaning towards replacing them. Since I got the car they have done nearly 60k miles.

The replacement option, opens the debate. Standard or grooved discs. 1999 Defender TD5 110

On the rear, standard is fine, grooved for 'looks'. I'd dare say you'd not tell a difference. At all.

Oh you'll notice a difference - the horrible screech of metal-on-metal as the rear pads wear out a few thousand miles after going anywhere remotely muddy.

As intimated above, they're of no use. Drilled/grooved brake discs are for 17-year olds to attract birds in McDonalds car parks.

IIRC minimum thickness for the rear brake discs is 10mm not incl the lip. looking to replace mine in the next month or so. they are britpart drilled and grooved (mated to green stuff pads) and have done stella work over the past 5 years. love them to bits. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I think with the lip removed I am towards 8mm thick. TBH, I think I will be sticking with standard discs along with new pads and fresh fluid with a decent bleed through they will be good again 1999 Defender TD5 110
