Central locking fault
Got back to my Def this afternoon and it didn't respond to the remote. Replaced the key fob battery (got mugged for 5 by a local jeweller for it who was the only shop to sell 2032s nearby) and still no joy. Walked bloody miles too - all with a gammy achilles.

Noticed the LED on the dash wasn't flashing, so assumed it was a shafted battery or suchlike as the whole car was dead. I've never used the door key to gain entry before and the lock was crudded solid and I couldn't get the key all the way in. So I was stuck Thumbs Up

Green Flag guy arrived. De-crudded door lock. Got in. Battery fine.

Fault found to be blown fuse under dash (F9). Changed fuse (20A). All good, but sluggish/inconsistent locking release on the rear offside door mechanism - maybe the cause?

Green Flag dude used his ammeter and found that activating the locking was drawing 8 Amps (which sounds like a lot - is it?). He said it may spike higher, but his tester maybe wasn't 'fast' enough to pick it up? Thought it may be chaffed or broken wiring or, if not, the solenoid?

If it isn't the wiring, do you recommend replacing the locking mechanism/solenoid? How expensive/easy/any tips?

Or do I just bite the bullet and take it to a sparky and bear the cost? (I don't want a fire)

Top tip - de-crud your door locks now and again so your key gets in. I could have sat in the boot I suppose, but would have looked a right tw@t parked outside the vets where it was Laughing

It could be a high current draw from the OSR actuator. You could unplug that door from the harness (small connector inside the OS 'B' post near where the rubber cable trunk enters from the door) and see if everything works normally with it disconnected, or simply wait to to see if it happens again.

Could be broken wires in the rubber door boots, sounds like a short to me.

Thanks fellas.

The visible wiring from the pillar to the door looks ok, but I suppose that's no guarantee.

How do I look for where a discontinuity could be? Rosco - how did the AA find it buried in the pillar?

The technician (that's the title isn't it?) seemed to have previous experience with the same symptoms on another defender. He asked which door was shut last when we had all got out, and he was bang on the money. Thumbs Up To be fair he'd also spent 15 mins plugged into the OBD checking for more obvious reasons first 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

So, when I finally had time for a proper look, this practically fell out of the rubber gaiter. Door card removal it is then🙄

Got round to fixing it. Bought these trim removal pliers - expensive but very easy to use. Attached photo of fir tree clip sockets - some white and some black (including one top left by the lock catch). The piece of rag trick popped off the circlip on the window winder handle.
Once again, thanks to the Forum members for the answers I needed which has saved me lots of money👍

Machine Mart. https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/power-tec-trim-clip-remover/

Did the job very well, but at 21, I'm sure there's cheaper alternatives.

OSR door strikes again!
Went out to go to work this morning, key fob appeared dead and wouldn't unlock the doors.
Managed to get in with the key, but the immobiliser wouldn't let the engine run, shut down a second or two after starting.
The battery has been a bit lazy recently, needed charging every week, so decided to get a new one.
With the new battery fitted nothing worked and alarm & horn sounded when tried to start.
Discovered a blown fuse, 20A F9, under the steering column.

A quick search on the forum and I found this thread.
Unplugged the wiring for the OSR door, locked and unlocked the CDL with the fob, then it started first time!
One of the wires was indeed snapped.
A job for the weekend, when I've got time.

Thanks to all above for getting it going again. Thumbs Up
