Thanks Greeni. Very interesting.

After swapping from a cold running tdi I'm paranoid about heat. Everything to do with the V8 is so hot. It seems perfectly able to regulate itself but seems to radiate from everywhere.

The heater is very good though!

I run a Defender 50th with the 4.0L GEMS V8 and don't have any extra cooling holes or fancy exhaust wrap; although the whole lot gets warm, the temp gauge stays where it should and the engine doesn't overheat.

It does have the proper radiator; with oil cooler. (which is bloody expensive to replace compared to others); so is either rare or has some extra cooling...

The 50th has aircon with an additional radiator for cooling the gas and twin electric fans, these are only for air con purposes and controlled by the ECU. If excessive engine temp the air con stops working, so I guess LR looked into all the cooling.

Standard viscous fan that comes in/out of locked when at normal temp, again suggests all is ok

The 50th doesn't have side vents in the wings either.

The only thing I've done is change the drivers top wing vent from solid to a grill, more for aesthetics has its a nice aluminium and stainless grill rather than plastic, so it should let some warm air out.

Extra holes will always help; but not a necessity; a radiator in good condition and a working fan should be sufficient.

Mine has never looked like overheating. It just kicks out heat like nothing else I've owned.

Although if the 50th is as closely related to the NAS V8's, then there will be a regulator in the temp guage loom to fool you into thinking the temperature is staying constant. It's just a voltage regulator to keep the needle somewhere in the middle Shocked Shocked Shocked
