Solenoid and Hose Connections for Wastegate and EGR
What is the vacuum hose connection from the wastegate on the Defender TD5 connected to? Is it connected to a solenoid? Mine doesnt seem to have the solenoid and I am experiencing a lot of black smoke.

can someone kindly assist.

Check for split intercooler or hoses for lots of black smoke. I just found this out after spending around £1600 on injectors thinking they were at fault. As for a solonoid I think I read the disco 2 has one but not the defender. Ray

Thanks Ray

I have blanked the EGR. Prior to blanking, the vehicle had lost power. After blanking , the situation continues. It can not rev at all. This is accompanied by lots of black smoke. Could this be the wastegate actuator? Ot the MAP sensor or MAF?

Check intercooler + hoses as Ray suggests.
Also disconnect the MAF and try it, might also be worth dropping the inlet hose of the turbo to make sure it isn't seized.
When the wastegate is seized you generally get lack of power at speed due to the overboost condition the ECU sees.

United Kingdom 2002 Defender 110 Td5 DCPU Keswick Green
My TD5 wastegate sticks in both the closed and partially open positions. Closed it goes like a rocket for a short time before the ECU detects overboost and limits power.

When it is stuck open there is just a lack of power (no smoke however). Neither of these should prevent revving when static though as you are unlikely to develop boost when not under load anyway

Thanks for the insight. I checked the hoses and they were all perfect. I disconnected the exhaust from the neck and that solved the problem. I then realised that the problem was with the catalytic converter. Thumbs Up
