you know something phil, I think you could be right, I remember my dads 406 Dturbo whistling like hell, and it turned out to be blowing from the inlet/manifold area. Which I am starting to think this is doing the same thing.

It's not that hard as long as all the studs stay put when you undo the nuts. You can ease the exhaust manifold and turbo out of the way just enough without disconnecting the oil lines. The air intake does need to be disconnected from the intercooler and also the turbo to intercooler elbow. Regards Phil 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. yeah phil, i can see the studs been a pain if the unwind off too which i think they will, knowing my luck. Used to happen with the rover k series engines. I do wonder if these use the same studs as the Free lander engines, you can buy special studs that you can wind in with an alankey. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

All the studs I have ever seen for a 300tdi require installation using the 2 nut method.
The first time I did my manifold gasket at least one was missing entirely and another couple came out with the nuts. Recently I have put a new cylinder head on and that needed all the studs putting on it. They were all double nut jobs as well. thanks phill, It is blowing badly. Looks like some one hasn't done the job properly! Two were slack! and I think another one is too. but it will require the inlet to come off to get at it. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

The gasket was shot to hell, every single stud wound out with the nut too
 Not a big deal though. Still cannot work out why everything was slack though?? Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

It may just have been poor previous installation. If you get the genuine nuts you'll notice that they are flanged and that they are squeezed up a bit to stop them coming loose.

I am starting to think a few things have been a poor installation murph, the tank was one of them! fuel neck not even nipped up is a right old classic! Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
