If I recall, there was someone doing the folded key/blipper thing a while back, may have been a group buy I think.

I'll do some digging and see if I can find anything on it, would love to go that route.

Yup.. posted on the thread a couple times to get it going... nothing came of it. Wonder if I should contact Peter directly and see if he's still doing them. If I hear anything back, I'll post here.

Sadly,

The flip keys from the group buy aren't particularly robust.

The weak spot is made worse by the choice of metal used and the location of the retaining screw.

It's why I had to buy a remote key.

Transponder is inside the remote, not into the key. Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

A shame the flip keys aren't very robust, I much prefer this design over either of the other options.

as a replacement key and fob - very impressed with service and quality and much less bulk than carrying round a key and a fob!

Hi

I bought one of these the other day and it arrived yesterday.

I programmed it straight away and it appears to work the central locking and alarm perfectly. The only problem I had was getting it cut. I took it to the one place in town that was open and he couldn't get it to fit his machine.

There is another place which will be open on Monday and I will try there.

Has anyone else had problems getting them cut?

It needs to be someone confident/good as if they mess it up presumably it will be £90 quid down the drain! ---------------------------------------------------------------

I bought a set of keys from a forum member, uncut obviously, complete with dongle in its original wrapping - all good.

I got the key cut yesterday and all good.

I was able to start the truck and drive it without coding the key to the ECU............granted the key doesn't function the central locking, but i still expected the immobiliser to kick in a nd prevent it being started.

And I had my normal fob in my pocket no where near the column.

Cheers
Andy

There's no chip in the "logo" Puma style key it's in the plipper. Sounds like your ignition barrel is scrap, most likely from too many keys and trinkets hanging off yours, or the previous owners keys Whistle Probably the best solution is to buy a new barrel and lock set (about £80 genuine) for security. The barrel if you can take the key out and it's running is too easy to stick anything in and turn if it's that worn.

I can confirm the key does not have a transponder in it. It's just a Morris Marina key blade with a modern plastic moulding.

A new key from LR is expensive at £50, I bought a 'fake' one from ebay and my dealer cut it for me. Seemed good quality although i had to glue the two halves of the plastic together on the copy.

The transponder is in the remote plip, so your car wont start without a plip present. However you can reuse a second hand plip and have it programmed to the car. Any UK 3TXB or 17TN plip will do, whether its from a Land Rover or a Rover car. If you buy a used plip and it looks shabby, LR will sell you a new case and rubber buttons for about £10.

I mean Lockset as in something like LR077438 which would be ignition barrel, switch, two keys and three barrels. There is different combos and in Land Rovers wisdom sometimes 1 barrel and a key is actually dearer Laughing

BAck to an earlier post in this thread, just called the AA re. their key replacement service, unfortunately they are unable to do any key cutting or fob reprogramming for any Land Rover vehicles due to permission issues between them LR and them. Just FYI.

It is entirely possible that the plip in your pocket was near enought the coil on the column for the system to read it and confirm it was present. It is not unknown for a plip left in the pocket of a jacket left on the second row seat of a 110 to work with the column coil.
