Td5 with mt82
So I may have the opportunity to purchasing a 2007 and newer transmission and put with my td5 I honestly do not know the extra parts I will need but I hear I need a starter clutch and possibly an output spindle to meet up everything on my end

Your thoughts?

My car is basically under a complete strip down so if I need to make a new driveshaft it's very possible and easy

Speak to Shabs at synchro gear boxes he will have the low down

I asked him about that and he strongly advised against it tbh

Would be much better to put higher 5th gear in your r380 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)

Ya, i have the v8 fifth gear in my cart, as well as the 1.2 transferbox gear swap.

It was an idea...

The r380 is solid, so why mess with what works

You would have to change a lot to put mt82 in as gear stick position is different so new g/box tunnel etc

Stick with the r380 and 1.2 ration worth upgrading to the hd cross pin

Have a look on synchro website 😊 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)

Or look for overdrive. http://roamerdrive.com/ds_overdrive.html I think, it is much usable, you will get also faster low-gear. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

Tge mt82 needs 1200£ for new flywheel and adaptor kit plus 550-1000£ for the gearbox plus modifyin the driveshafts...

If i had an oil rig or gold mine in my backyard i would do it. But i dont so i will just go with what works...

I have Discovery2 TD5 with 235/85/R16 tyres and standard gearing (with 1,2 transfer box) heavily loaded for "camping" - something like 3200kg, with some moderate engine remap. All runs fine, but starting to move on first gear - this gearing is a bit heavy, especially when I'm somewhere in mountains.
A have also stock 130 TD5 with the same tire size and 1.4 gearing in transfer box. Up to approx. 70kmh it look like, the 130 runs better, over 70kmh the engine sounds like, it is not the best - high RPM.
try this calculator: http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/calc/ratio_calc.html
For 130 I have a not-simple plan: 255/85/R16 tyres, new gearing for diffs 1:3.8 with lockers, 1.4 gearing in transfer box, stock R380 and overdrive (old GKN type). In low range it will be OK, in hi range without overdrive it will be nice for light offroad or in city, and with overdrive for running out of the cities/villages.

The overdrive is ready made solution, not quite cheap but working. The newer Roamerdrive can be used also in low range, so it gets you also higher low range - very usefull in some types of terrain - like sand. With Disco2 in some types oh deep sand I was not able to start moving in hi gear, in low gear is was OK. But in low gear the usefull top speed was approx. 40kmh only. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

MadTom,

You may not be that Mad after all. I will have to dig into this a little more.

Presently i have a long list of parts to fix my R380 as well as Transfer case. It seems better to keep the 1.4 ratio for loaded situations and use the OD to push it that lil bit further.

I am surrounded by tons of sand, so the 1.4 proves more useful especially in soft sand vs the 1.2. Saves me 275Gbp in the short run, but will be spending $1500 in the long.

The Roamerdrive is a fantastic unit. I was at their shop yesterday picking up a Roamerdrie for a friend of mine. Can't say enough good things about Ray and the product he has designed and built. it's a Landrover thing...
