Black metallic samples
I need to repaint a couple of bits, and I fancy going metallic.
I'd have thought as already primed a rub down and hi build primer would suffice as a barrier primer.

I'm thinking of looking at Java and Santorini Black metallic.
What are the differences in the two and which would you go for?

Does anyone have any close up samples?

I'm leaning towards Santorini but interested to know what you guys think.
My 90 Stornoway Grey, so some items will be painted body colour but the black I cannot make my mind up.

At the moment it's just Acrylic gloss black not metallic.

Any thoughts? Thumbs Up Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Java doesn't have the metallic santorini has, I'd have santorini over java!

I did wonder if Java was at all metallic but it is listed as such.
Santorini seems much more popular.

Think I'll go with that. Thumbs Up Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

I thought Java Black was pearlescent whereas Santorini is metallic. I'd go for Santorini but I'm slightly biased.

From memory, Java has grey/silver flecks in it and santorini also has red and green flecks. Personally I'd go for santorini, and I did on my roof, wheels, bumper and rear crossmember Mr. Green Ray

^^^^ Yep that's the one MK1. I remember your pic and liked it very much at the time.

Stornoway & Santorini it is. I want to do my dash dial rings black, and my fan vents each end.
Sub Grille Stornoway, and Centre dash stornoway which are black right now too.

Cannot make up my mind on the centre fan rings, they are silver as standard.
I have them black at the moment but could go with Stornoway also.

So it's either, sub and centre dash Stornoway and black rings in the centre or Stornoway also.

At the moment everything is black and I definitely want Stornoway sub grille and centre dash.

What would you go with? Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

I think I'd keep all the rings the same colour, so either rings black with console and grill grey or rings and console black with grill grey. Ray

Sounds good to me, all black as is but metallic. And Stornoway centre dash and sub grille.

I'll get on with it as soon as I get time, doing it in winter time is a real pain.
So hopefully within a month or two max ideally.

Always better to do painting in summer if you don't have a paint booth. When I get time I'm altering my centre console on the td5 to fit a double din, then painting it santorini. Ray

Not sure if these help? Santorini, I'm planning on giving it a polish prior to Scotland road trip to help with getting the bugs off easier. I will try to get a close up Smile

When I had my new doors painted in Java black to match the rest of the truck the body shop paint man mentioned that it contains blue pearl flecks. It's certainly very subtle and could easily be mistaken for flat. I'll try to get a close-up that shows it.

This is Java Black close up. It has a very subtle pearlescent fleck which can just be seen in the photo. Add a bit of road grime and it could easily be mistaken for a flat black.
