One of my biggest regrets was not buying it when we closed the garages down :

These pictures were taken early 90s, that's my 2.8 special in the background, (wish I still had that too!) Laughing

I used to help out at a neighbouring farm when I lived at Holmfirth as a kid. The farmer had an old blue Series Two that he would drive about in, and I would often go out in that as a passenger. Its funny I was allowed to drive his grey Fergie, but not the Land Rover!

I next joined the Army as boy soldier in the Royal Signals, and in training managed to blow a hole in the floor of an FFR by dropping the power cables. But after many years in the Army living with Land Rovers - they ended up getting into my blood and I have owned them ever since I got out. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

England 2010 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Java Black

Dad was the village blacksmith and in the early 1960's Brigadeer Scot - Robson took us across rolling English parkland in his (even then) old Series 1, windscreen down, rag top off, me bouncing around in the back, saw a red squirrel. I was 8ish.
Bought a 1959 Series II instead of a rather tasty TR6 in 1979. Not been without a Land Rover since. Very Happy 2.4 tdci puma utility XS + BAS remap, OME shocks, ZU alloys, Mud seat rails, LR RAI, Gwyn Lewis mud flaps and Sumo Bars.
Past Land Rovers since 1978 never been without one.
1959 Ser II - should have kept it.
Ser 11/serIII - built from scratch in Papua New Guinea by the previous owner - regret selling it.
Range Rover 3.5 Early 4 door - should have kept it.
110 300tdi Commercial - much modded - sold at 380,000 miles, saw it recently - regret selling it.

Working for the local authority at 18 (24 years ago) I was taking water samples driving along about twenty miles of open beaches. Vehicle was a Toyota hilux. I needed to head inland over a dune system to cut out a twenty mile round drive back to an exit point. After three failed attempts a colleague rolled up in a well abused council owned 110 with 9 people in it and boardwalk building material on the roof and proceeded to tow me over the dunes. Impression made. I needed a landy. It took me a while but I got there in the end

Driving a series 3 as a six or seven year old in the late 1970s in low range while Dad was on the back throwing out bales of hay. He would have to jump off and back into the drivers seat to help me stop as I couldn't reach the pedals. Later my brother and I found we could just reach the pedals and sort of look out the front vents which we thought was a hoot. Lucky we had some big paddocks!

Also I loved my Britains toy Land Rover - it had a soldier with a Bren on the back and a radio!

Picked up a pile of "Car and Car Conversion" magazines for FREE when I was 16 and in one of them was an article by Pete Robain (their photographer) about buying a series 1 and fitting it with a V8 to go offroading. I was 21 before I bought my first one but it they have been costing me money ever since, I wouldn't change a thing and still the best FREE magazine I ever read.

First car I drove was in a field in Derbyshire - uncle's Series I, I must have been about 10?
Going to school down back lanes in Shropshire mum thought a Land Rover would be a good idea, spoke to a family friend who runs an Indy garage, then a bloke who did car auctions - he comes back and said "I've got you one." Mum initially had cold feet when she saw the size of a Series III 109 but learned to love it, that beast became my first car after I passed my test. Went off to uni forgot about cars as couldn't afford anything. Fast forward to 2015 and I bought mine!

Is that toy worth more with the mistake in the branding on the box?
...obviously not an "88", but a "109"

..i always loved shape of defender..for some reason, i never looked up for one as i thought they are not possible to buy brand new..in main time, i have had several high class vehicles which in return, teach me how boring are modern luxury cars and bloody curvy, which i hate (only curve i like to see are one on a woman)..by pure coincidence i saw advert here in Kuala Lumpur, that actually brand new defenders are sold..i went there and got my 1st double cab for my birthday..rest of the story is legend(means, sold out all fancy cars i have had, and now i have two defenders and one 21 years P38) lol..

A lift back from school in the back of a Series 3, aged 8 or 9. Add to that my parents complete disdain for 'nasty agricultural vehicles' and the path was set. Laughing

That looks very similar to one my mate has in his front garden, white with a faded stripe on the side, 109 6 pot with an Harvey in the back (now removed) but his has had the cab extended into a crew cab and a 1/2. 1999 Defender TD5 110
