110 milometer / odometer fix
1994 110 -just bought with 170000 miles. Went 100 miles at weekend & milometer still at 170000 ! Trip gauge works and tenth of miles turn over but doesn't then register into the single miles. Easy fix or take to the garage ? Thanks.

Sounds like the speedo drive is ok; as it turn the trip, and registers speed.
so likely to be a fault with the speedo itself. (internal)

170,000 and how many unrecorded miles Shocked

You may be better finding a second hand unit on ebay; its a really easy swap
You can take the speedo apart, but at 170,000 likely to have warn out or damaged a small cog or something.

The mileage now is irrelavent; you could set the replacement speedo; or just record the mileage change.
Its not illegal to display any mileage, or even reset to zero; it only becomes illegal if you tried to defraud someone by suggesting the mileage is lower than stated.

But as you bought it knowing it was a high mile..r and are happy with your choice, its only a number

This one is almost spot on for miles too

Then sell yours backon ebay as spares or repair; you make get something for it.

170,000 miles is not high miles for a 1994 110, indeed quite the opposite.

It's quite common for mechanical speedos to get stuck when ticking over to higher numbers as they age. There are a number of companies who will be able to repair it for you (Google 'mechanical speedo repair' or similar), or you could prise the cover off and have a go yourself.

Alternatively upgrade to a Td5 speedo which has an electronic mileage readout.

The mechanical swap seems reasonably straight
forward and I would certainly give it a go. Would the digital display swap be as easy ?

Ok - basic question. How do I remove the three plastic attachments at the back of the milometer so I can remove it ?

I don't want to sound rude, but if you have to ask that then maybe you'd be best getting someone to do it for you or buying a second hand one that works. Ray

I'd start with the two bolts on the back, but I've never pulled one apart before Ray

you have to remove the bezel, that's the only way.
Its crimped over and sandwiches the glass to the can.

You can to go around the whole lot 360 and with a small screw driver bend back the edge of the bezel.

It won't look factory once you get it apart, and to put it back involves the same.

A proper company who repair them replace the bezel with new and have a special gig that crimps it closed.

You can get a decent close by hand, and its not viewable in situe.
So its your call.

Thought that might be the solution but didn't want to start working at it in case there was a simpler way. Obviously would never look the same again ! Thanks for the answer.
