Subwoofer extension cable
Hi all
I have just added the under cubby heater box and heater, which all was fine, except that I have a factory fitted Alpine-branded Hi Line 150W low profile subwoofer on the back of the cubby box which has a bit of a stretch on the cable that is routed from the middle of the plate under the cubby.
Do you know where I can get an extension cable to allow the cable to be routed better with less stress...

I looked at cutting the cable and fitting longer wires but I don't trust my soldering skills !!

Take it to an auto electrician to extend the cable, he should have all the correct coloured wires and you know the job is done properly. I don't think anywhere does an extension. Ray

^^^^ .... living in the paradise of remote north cornwall that may prove to be an adventure !!

It is an option and may be the route I'll have to take, but looking for a KISS approach first Thumbs Up Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

Could you drill a new hole in a more useful position in the plate under the cubby to give you a bit more flexibility? Darren

Buy a decent soldering iron, some extra wire and learn yourself wire soldering. I was teaching 10 years old children how to do it. Normally it took the one day to learn, so it is really not difficult.
These wires are the right size for easy soldering.
And don´t forget to use heatshrinking tubes for isolating the joints and for mechanical protecting them. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

Sadly not - I looked at doing this first, however the new 'under cubby heater box and heater' raise the cubby box up about 4 inches, and position the Woofer higher and further back than its original location so requiring the cable to be moved from the centre of the old under cubby plate to the side then feed round the underside of the new plate to reach the woofer...

Tom, looked at that too as an option but this is a simple fix if there is a cable available and more likely to last longer than my attempt of soldering and then burying the cable under the new heater and associated fittings ! - it may still be the best option but not my most favoured! Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

See if the plug has any identification on it.
You may be able to get male and female versions and make your own extension loom.
Without having to cut the standard loom.

It's common enough to do for relocation and leaves OE harnesses in-tact as factory fit. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸ðŸ‘¨â€ðŸ”§ðŸ§°âš™ï¸ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

^^^^ My thoughts too. Thumbs Up Its not one I recognise off the top of my head but I'm damn sure there is likely something in the market that mates with it. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸ðŸ‘¨â€ðŸ”§ðŸ§°âš™ï¸ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Cool ! I’ll take a proper picture of it when I get home again and see what he thinks .. meanwhile the tame electrical person on my platform is going to give me a crash course on crimping and then setting me up to cut out the connector block all together and use bullet connectors, heat shrink and have as long a lead as needed, with out the possibility of me melting the thing !!
so something to try and a new skill to learn - rather than my ‘bodging’ squash and hope that I do at the moment ! Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

The connector is from the Yazaki YESC Kaizen series.

The male connector is available from Land Rover, without terminals, as YPC804550

The female connector is not available from Land Rover.

I have both the male and female connectors with terminals, and could make an extension cable.

^^^ Wooohoooooo !!!

I am also interested in an extension cable as looking to install the same cubby box. Apologies if you were doing someone a favour.....but if you are making them can you give me an idea of cost? Many thanks Carl.

Hi Carl
Sadly I was unsuccessful in finding an extension cable
So am now going to extend each cable individually by about a foot, and use crimp joints on the lower cable to the connection and feed it though a new hole that I will drill into the bottom pate of the heater.

Ill let you know how I get on (wish me luck!) Thumbs Up Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html
