Stereo - aftermarket problems
Hi all,

Electrics isn't my strong point but as this is pretty much plug and play... so looking for someone to point the obvious out here.

Brought the defender a few weeks ago it's a 2015 and had no radio as standard.

Checked for wires behind speakers (underdash) and head unit, all good.

Brought a pioneer headunit and some speakers plugged everything in with correct adapter to ISO but when I start the car/put ignition on it looks as though no power is going to the radio.
I've done a visual check of the fuses and they look good.

I'm assuming I've missed something pretty simple.
I'll attach a few pics, you can also see
DAB Ariel wired through and a mic for handsfree,

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks
Will

Does the HU have a fuse built in? If so check that.

I'd get a Multimeter out also to check for voltage when expected on ignition live and permanent live.

Continuity test the earth feed, if you have power it'll still not work without a working earth with low continuity reading.
Start with the LR power source plug first, and depending on what you find work your way back though the plugs to the HU rear one.

All of the plugs inc the DIN ISO ones can be found only and the HU's one should be in the manual or manufacturer site.

Double check the wiring and that everything matches.
Mute and blue remote etc etc should not be connected anywhere unless in use.
On your DIN. ISO plug you should have perm live, ignition and earth only.
If blue remote is there ignore it, as it should be connected at all unless you are running an amp.

Also check the LR has a fuse present for the system, if it didn't have audio factory fitted then the fuse probably isn't present in the fuse box. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Hi,

Had a similar problem with a friends 90 when we put a decent head unit in it. It turned out that although the adapter was quoted as the right one (from Halfords I think)it turned out that it wasn't wired up right for the vehicle. We didn't really have time to order a new one so we managed to swap some of the pins over.

Like Steve said. It's something that could be easily sorted with a multimeter or a test lamp to see where your permanent live / switched live are (vehicle side) and then compare with the wiring diagram for the head unit

All sorted thanks for the help folks!

Perm lives didn't match up on connector blocks 😁
